BUy the refurb it is better

by C. Hobbs 2009-05-21, 15 people found this review helpful
I recommend this camera, especially the refurb model because Kodak has fixed the light buzzing problem in the sound about a third of these cameras have brand new. The video is astounding for the price and super easy to use. Again the refurb in this case is better then brand new as Kodak has had a chance to tweak the mic. Be advised you should still upgrade the firmware for even better picture. Kodaks website provides this and instructions on how to do it. Camera is so good and such a great deal I am not even going to complain about the laziness of Kodak not flashing the refurb with the new firmware. However, Kodak should have done this rather then relying on its customers to update it themselves. That being said. This is the best hundred bucks you can spend HANDS DOWN!

Greeat portable HD video cam for the price.

by Mauvis Ledford 2009-06-15, 6 people found this review helpful
I regularly shoot with a Nikon D90 (which also shoots 720p video) but needed a smaller device that was more portable for random events and going out with friends. I found this device almost perfect - especially for the price.

I did a lot of research on whether to get this unit or a Flip and after watching a lot of Vimeo videos decided that the color saturation and sound (especially the sound) on this unit was far superior. The only horrible downside is for low-light situations.

This unit doesn't actually drop frames like many people assume - it actually lowers the shutter speed to something like 1/10th of a second so everything appears like floating ghosts (if no one is moving in your shot and your hands are steady then it pretty much looks ok.) Why the engineers at Kodak decided to do this instead of upping the "digital ISO" (which would in turn up the graininess) is beyond me. Everyone would rather have grainier video in this situation than blurry ones. It's a no brainer Kodak.

Low light aside, you can get this unit used or refurbished for about a hundred clams. That's cheap. In most situations this camera shoots HD equivalent to my 1K D90 (and with superior stereo audio to boot) and that's nothing to scoff at!

great for the price.

Only problem was it come with old driver. I need to download the new driver. Once I did that, no problem at all. Great quality movies. Very easy to use. simple and value for the money.

Simply HD

This is a super simple pocket HD camcorder. It shoots in 720p HD video. I love this camera and take it everywhere i go. Its super easy to carry and upload to Youtube. I strongly suggest you buy this over The HD Vado or HD Flip cameras.

Great Small Camera

by Jazzbo 2009-07-10, 3 people found this review helpful
I bought this pocket camcorder to take on outings because it is easy to carry. The video quality is quite good for such a small camcorder, the screen is large and the fact that it takes sd and sdhc cards makes it superior to some of its competitors. The battery life is fine and the audio is surprisingly good.Even thugh it's refurbished I'm quite happy with it so far.

I would definitely recommend it as a convenient low cost camcorder.

Quick and Easy

I was able to take quick and easy video. Even in low light I was able to get video where my digital still camera required a flash. Very convienient. Fits in a shirt pocket.

Great Little HD cam. Great for MAC users

Everyone has said everything that's need to be said about this product.
So I will say is probably the best bang for your buck compared to the others like FlipHD and VadoHD. $99 refurbished. Looks like they fixed the buzzing sound. (I believed the reason why is it was Refurbish.)
A couple of things why this I like this Zi6: 720p 60fps and uses AA batteries which is a huge plus. Works great with iMovie and iPhoto imports without any conversions. Plus nice bright LCD 2.4. Low light issues happens to all camcorders. Make sure you upgrade FIRMWARE 1.11 (you can remove the chime(mute), more stable recording and can use 32gb SDHC + other things.

Nice Camera, poor sound

by J. Mikolay 2009-07-13, 2 people found this review helpful
I like the camera and the features. Sharp picures and video. Decent digital zoom. A little jumpy so you have to really try and hold your hand as steady as possible and be as smooth as possible with your moves. My only real complaint is for the sound. A subject about 5' away speaking in a normal voice is barely audible. Not sure if there is something wrong or just a problem in general with this camera. Considering the price, this is a great deal for a go anywhere camera. I also like the software that comes with it. Easy to install and use. Seems fairly intuitive although I have not used it extensively. I was quickly able (on my first try) to take a video, import it and make a snapshot from one of the frames and send it on it's merry way in less than 5 minutes having never even so much as opened the software. Need to figure out the sound..... otherwise it would have gotten 5 stars. I feel like I'm almost watching a silent movie.

just right

In 4 days and for less than ninety bucks I got this beautiful little hd cam in my hands and I haven't regretted a thing about it. It may not be the hip mino hd that all the youtube kids are using, and it doesn't have the abillity to charge by usb, but it takes great images, it runs on rechargeable AA batteries and is the size of most smartphones. I'd rather feel one of these in my pocket than a metallic candy bar (mino)! Also I prefer being able to drop in AA batteries on the fly, than having to hunt down a usb port to hang my camera off of for an hour or so. The same goes for the card slot memory which keeps me virtually unlimited on how much recording time I need. I scored a couple of 4gb lexar cards for under $10 so overall i'm still spending less than I would have on another pocket cam. And as for this being a 720p only cam: I mounted it in my car and shot my drive over to best buy. Once there I used the included hd av cable to plug in to one of the hd tv's and gathered a small crowd of onlookers. It looked fantastic!

Good for the money...

Was leery about a refurb item. It came in a Kodak camera box (some other digital camera box) that had me concerned when I first opened it. I picked up a 16gb SD to run in this. If you understand the limitations of this it is a nice setup for quick video shots. Now some type of anti shake would be great, but it does not have this, so you have to keep it close to you and minimize the urge to wave it around when filming. The Kodak software works great for DVD transfer, but when you run the MOV's on the PC with this software it appears to speed up the the movement of the people. Not too many other devices at this point though that you can stick in a pocket or pack and pull out and start taking decent video with sound.
