I am new to the SLR world. I was looking at the Nikon D40 when I bought this Canon Rebel XS. I found the Canon to have just a little better everything all the way around. Many features I am still learning, but overall I pulled it out of the box and Started taking great pics instantly. If your a point and shoot person this is a new world for taking pictures. But Canon has given you a tool to take great to awesome pictures with this Camera. I also looked at the XSi but found for the extra money(that I really didn't want to spend) the XS did everything I needed and more. I am not a pro so just getting into the SLR line of cameras I was most comfortable with Canon. Plus the kit that I got was so worth it. I priced just the camera at local stores and they couldn't touch this price with all included. My opinion go for it, you'll be happy you did.

I purchased a Canon Digital Rebel XS 10.1MP Digital SLR Camera (Black) + Canon EF-S 18-55mm IS Lens + Spare LP-E5 Battery + 4GB Card + Gadget Bag with Amazon/Carmeta Camera. My local retailer offered the camera, but not the extras. I saved $130 by using Amazon/Carmeta Camera. The camera is a gift for my daughter and her husband to take pics of their now one year old son. They are in love with the camera and the pictures it takes. Would definitely recommend this camera.

The camera is great. We did a family photo shot and the pictures were great, with great depth of field. The camera bag was great and the extra battery and memory card were all important things to have. I would recommend to get all this together since you would need to buy it anyway.

Allow me to start by saying as of July 2009... this may very well be the best bang for one's buck when it comes to buying a "starter-level" SLR camera. After weeks of time tedious research on entry level Canon SLR cameras as well as Nikon entry level cameras, I have found the following to be true. The Canon Rebel XS when compared to the likes of the Nikon D40 appears to have all the same features... to put it simply they're practically the same camera. This customer did note however, that it appears the Canon Rebel XS has "one-upped" the Nikon D40 in multiple fields. It is secondary to that, that this customer made the purchase on the Canon rather than the Nikon.

With that said, please permit me to review XS Outfit "package deal" being offered by Cameta Camera. As before mentioned, the wealth of return one receives for one's money on this deal is second to none. Not only are "9 items" included in the package per the description, but also everthing that comes with the Canon Rebel XS in it's original box also comes with this offer. In layman's terms, one will receive the Canon Rebel XS camera with all included contents in its original packaging (as if ordered directly from Canon) along with the seven other pictured items.

The seven external items of this "outfit" are not name brand Canon accessories, but still offer pretty decent value. Everything from the lens cloth to the extra battery all work exceptionally well with the exception of the biggest item. As one may have guessed, it's the bag. The bag is not bad, but it's not great either. Upon first opening the bag, one of the buckles on the side broke. It still works fine with the other three buckles, but this little defect attempts to reveal its less-than-great quality. Secondly, the bag does not have that 100% "sturdy" feel when holding it in one's hand. (It's really more like 75% sturdy). Other than those two criticisms, the bag does offer some highlights. It is extremely spacious and provides adequate room for everything included in this "outfit." This customer found there still to be enough space left over to add in second lens. Another highlight of this bag is that the compartment dividers on the inside of the bag are completely interchangable and movable allowing one the opportunity to customize their layout as one sees fit.

As far as shipping goes, there were complications.

After a week, my order still had not shipped, and I notified customer service through email. I was notified there case of Rebel XS was damaged and a prompt shipment was in route from Canon. After a day or so I called and was told the shipment was in and would be sent out that day. I didn't want to wait another week or more on USPS so I was upgraded to UPS 2nd day air. The person I talked with was nice and informative.

As far as the outfit, I am very satisfied. The outfit came with everything as advertised. The camera itself is a joy to use, but for a thorough review of the camera, look elsewhere.

This was the best deal I could find and I looked pretty good.

The case works well. It's not for gimmick.

The memory card also comes with the memory wallet. It's not really going to be used unless I'm out in the jungle.

The SDHC reader is very handed! I did not have to buy a card reader. Anyone that has a USB input can use it.

Microfiber cloth works well.

The battery! I got this outfit mostly for the battery. The extra battery is not an official Canon battery, but has all the same ratings and works just as well.

this package had everything that I needed to get up and running. i bought this primarily to capture pictures of my 3 year old daughter. the responsiveness during daylight is fantastic. the camera case is too big, but other than that and the slower performance in darkness it's a great deal.

I have been dying to buy a digital SLR camera but have always been scared off by the price. Between the camera, lenses, memory card, and other accessories, you'll pay in the thousands at other places. When I saw this deal, I was sure it was too good to be true, but had to try. It has exceeded my expectations. Everything in the description arrived right on time. The camera is absolutely amazing. I haven't even been through all the features yet and am already beyond pleased. I would recommend this to anyone!

Ordered this camera for my daughter who could never make up her mind what kind of camera she wanted for a past graduation. She loves it. She uses it with ease and takes great pictures. Who could ask for more!
